EPC's (Energy Performance Certificates)

Are an integral and mandatory component of  HIP's (Home information pack)

Introduced by the government  in 2007

To aid the sales process of the domestic housing market.

Kyoto Protocol 2002

Reduction in carbon dioxide emissions to 92% of 1990 level by 2008/12

EU Directive 2002 (EU Energy Performance of Buildings)

Article 7: "..when buildings are constructed, sold or rented out, an energy performance certificate...is made available to the perspective buyer or tenant..."

Article 10: "the certification of buildings....are carried out in an independent manner by qualified and accredited experts.."
